The Smoky Mountains got their name because of the smoke-like mist that hovers over the mountaintops. Pigeon Forge got its name from the Little Pigeon River, which passenger pigeons used as a migratory guide until they became extinct over a century ago. Running through Pigeon Forge along the river, U.S. Route 441, also known as the “Parkway,” serves as a migratory guide for tourists who follow it down to Gatlinburg through Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Home to attractions like Dollywood and The Island, Pigeon Forge offers family fun, outdoor recreation, shopping, and dining. For an authentic Smoky Mountain vacation, stay in a Pigeon Forge cabin. Less than 7 miles from the heart of Pigeon Forge​​, Northstar Mountain Lodge is like your own mini-resort. Perfect for groups from family reunions to retreats, this six-bedroom cabin can accommodate up to 24 guests. Features include an indoor pool, a hot tub, and a theater room!

In the pool, a waterfall overflows into the grotto, while a bridge crosses over the pool, leading to the jetted spa and the kiddie wading pool. On the deck, relax in the hot tub at twilight surrounded by unobscured, expansive views of the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains extending all the way to Mount Le Conte. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outside in, and there are several fireplaces as well as an outdoor fire pit to cozy up next to.

Another great place for a get-together, Pool on Summit Point offers over 5,000 square feet of luxury lodge living as well as breathtaking views. This luxury lodge is so close to Dollywood that you can hear the coal-fired steam engine whistle from inside! Perched atop Panther Knob on a heavily wooded one-acre lot, this five-bedroom cabin offers mesmerizing views of both Mount Le Conte and Clingman's Dome from both the upper and lower decks, including the hot tub. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including turkeys, raccoons, and bears.

Just minutes from all the action on the parkway, this four-bedroom cabin features a hot tub and a game room.

Just look at those views! Offering quick access to the parkway, Pigeon Forge, Tanger Outlets, and nearby attractions, this centrally located log cabin is one of many in the gated Gated Bear Creek Crossing Resort. In addition to double decks, it features an arcade, pool table, theater, and hot tub. Enjoy access to the resort's outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, and putt-putt golf course.

On the western edge of Pigeon Forge, this remote-feeling chalet is just a 5-minute drive from all the action of the Parkway. You can be at the national park in 15 minutes or Gatlinburg in 20.

The interior is tastefully decorated, but you'll want to spend your time outdoors to take advantage of the smoke-free gas firepit, party lights, and hot tub.

Traveling with pets? Walk in the Clouds is a sprawling estate with a small fenced-in area for dogs to roam freely. This four-bedroom cabin can accommodate up to 12 guests. Enjoy mountain views from the wraparound porch. Other features include a fireplace, hot tub, pool table, and ping pong table.

Get away from it all while being just off the parkway at this sleek, modern cabin, conveniently located between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Highlights include a pool table, a hot tub, and a propane fire pit. The Gatlinburg strip is 5 miles away, while Dollywood is 6 miles away. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance is just 7 miles from here.

Nested in Pigeon Forge's backyard, this two-bedroom cabin is part of the Sterling Springs Mountain Resort. Heavenly View is a unique round cabin with a spiral staircase and hot tub. In warm months, enjoy access to the resort pool. Daring folks can try out the zipline just a few yards away from here.

For a real Smoky Mountain adventure, stay in this neat treetop retreat that was built by The Treehouse Guys from the DIY Network. A spiral staircase leads up to the loft bedroom. From there, a suspension bridge leads to a Crow’s Nest porch overlooking the forest. Do note that there are several stairs leading up to the treehouse, so this is not an option for those with mobility issues.
