ThinGap, the Californian manufacturer of zero-cogging slotless motors, is merging with Allied Motion Technologies, the US group that designs and produces precision motion products for the global market. The terms of the merger have not been revealed.

Camarillo-based ThinGap designs and manufactures low-profile, brushless DC motor kits and assemblies using a proprietary wave-wound stator architecture and optimised rotors. Its high torque-to-volume motors are aimed at applications requiring precise motion in markets such as aerospace, defence and medical.

ThinGap’s motors span ratings from 0.1–70kW and come in a variety of form factors for high-end applications such as satellites, optical platforms, test equipment and medical robots.

“ThinGap’s market-leading products expand our precision motion capabilities, while advancing our strategy to provide integrated motion solutions for demanding applications,” says Allied Motion’s chairman and CEO, Dick Warzala. Allied plans use its existing sales and support channels to expand growth opportunities for ThinGap.

Warzala also sees potential to advance Allied’s capabilities in the robotics, semiconductor and instrumentation markets. The characteristics of ThinGap’s motors are, he says, “well-suited for the high precision, smooth motion requirements in these exacting applications.”

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2022, subject to customary closing conditions.
